BC Lions release Rich Stubler

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The BC Lions announced today they won’t extend the contract of defensive coordinator Rich Stubler.
He was with the Lions for the past two seasons, after signing on with the club in 2012. He was first with the Lions in 2000.
Stubler then spent time with the Toronto Argonauts as their defensive coordinator and as head coach. He earned a record of 4-6 with the Argos in 2008 before being fired.
He returned to the Leos as part of the defensive line coaching staff in 2010.
“I’m grateful for Rich’s contributions to our organization as well his personal assistance over the past two seasons and on behalf of our club, I wish him the very best in the future,” says Head Coach Mike Benevides.
The Lions announced last week they were parting ways with Offensive Coordinator Jacques Chapdelaine.
“We’ll immediately begin the process of filling the defensive coordinator position as we have with the offensive coordinator spot and I am confident that we will have an outstanding staff heading into the 2014 season,” adds Benevides. “Making these kinds of decisions now allows us to speak to a number of qualified candidates and it also affords these gentlemen the time to pursue other opportunities.”
The Lions had a 11-7 record in the regular season. They finished third in the CFL West division, before losing to the eventual Grey Cup Champion, the Saskatchewan Roughriders 29-25 in the West semifinal.
