Big changes today to Highway 1 and Highway 17

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS1130) – Drivers will be better connected between Burnaby and Vancouver today.
But the new Boundary Road on-ramp to access Highway 1 westbound isn’t the only new route for commuters; a new lane is also opening to traffic from Willingdon to the Cassiar Tunnel.
The province also expects additional Highway 1 lanes to open in the coming days, widening one of the most congested areas in Metro Vancouver and delivering more travel time savings for drivers on the Port Mann/Highway 1 corridor.
But what kind of impact will this really have? Jen Coles in the News1130 Traffic Centre figures the true test will come after Christmas.
“It has been a long time coming; there have been a lot of construction delays because of this and it will be a relief to know that all those lanes are open. No longer will we have those morning or evening delays and lane closures there.”
Meanwhile, over in Delta, a major part of the second phase of the South Fraser Perimeter Road project on Highway 17 between Tsawwassen and Highway 99 opens today. But that means Hwy 17A between 34B and 28th Avenues is now closed until Thursday.
