Crews, shelters preparing for tomorrow’s snow

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS1130) – The roads are always a challenge during a decent snowfall.
Darren Ell of Mainroad Lower Mainland Contracting says they’re getting ready. “We have been out pre-salting the roads and we’re monitoring the forecast very closely.”
The City of Vancouver says a full crew and 14 city trucks will begin working at 7 p.m. and throughout the night to salt and plow major routes as needed.
Meanwhile, James Pratt of the Greater Vancouver Shelter Strategy says 17 sites are open to help the homeless.
“We had some communities seeing that there was expanded demand already coming in a couple of days ago, and some have actually stayed open since the last cold snap,” he explains.
Pratt notes the number of stays at the shelters is already approaching the total for last season.
