Keep your home safe while on Christmas vacation

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you and your family plan on heading out of town during the holidays, you better make sure your home is fully protected.
Vancouver Police Cst. Brian Montague says your best bet is to make it look like someone is home. “Put lights on, invest in some timers. If you’re away for any length of time, have a neighbour pick up your newspapers or mail. Thieves don’t take time off this time of year and we have to do everything we can to deter them.”
He says people often forget to do the simplest things. “Lock your doors and windows, it seems pretty simple. Don’t advertise the fact you have certain items in your home that may be attractive to thieves.”
Montague suggests not telling the world you’re going on vacation, so avoid posting it on social media websites like Facebook and Twitter.
