Students behind prepaid parking option spur on others

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s been quite the semester for two UBC economics students.
They not only got an A for a project they’ve been working on, they had Vancouver City Hall sit up and pay attention to their parking idea.
By the end of the year, expect to have the option to prepay your parking in some spots in Vancouver if you want to leave your car parked overnight after a night of drinking.

Kuznecov says he got the idea while on a visit to Seattle. He decided to pitch city hall with the concept, while doing the research for the project at school.
“It’s a really good learning experience. Obviously it will look good on our resume. It’s something we will be able to look back on and be proud of,” Kuznecov explains.
City councillors unanimously voted in favour of the prepaid parking meters this past week, and the new payment option may be in place within the next couple of weeks.
“Both of us encourage people with good ideas. There are lots of good ideas out there. We’re hoping that when people see a couple of UBC students making a difference, maybe they will do the same thing, ” says Kuznecov.
