Canucks lose Luongo in win over Jets

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Roberto Luongo had to leave the game late in the first period with an injury, but Eddie Lack filled in nicely to lead the Vancouver Canucks to a 2-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets.
Luongo was forced to leave after being clipped by Winnipeg’s Dustin Byfuglien and did not return. It’s believed to be a groin injury that ended his night. He stopped all six shots he faced before leaving.
The Canucks got on the board first as Brad Richardson tallied with one second left on a Vancouver powerplay. Dan Hamhuis’ shot from the point was deflected by Richardson past Ondrej Pavelec and after a review to determine if a high-stick contacted the puck, the goal was upheld.
Lack was sharp to begin his relief appearance, but was beaten with a little under nine minutes to play in the 2nd period when Vancouver native Evander Kane fired a wristshot past him on the powerplay. Blake Wheeler set Kane up in the slot from behind the goal.
The teams remained tied heading into the third period, and Winnipeg controlled the play for the first eight minutes of the final frame.
When Vancouver finally got its legs moving, it also got the go-ahead goal. Chris Tanev buried his fourth of the year with 9:37 left in regulation, and it held up as the game-winner.
Lack turned aside 15 of the 16 shots he faced to record his second win in as many games.
The Canucks have now won six straight home games, and nine of their past 11 games overall. Vancouver has a week off for the Christmas break before visiting the Calgary Flames on Dec. 29.
