Military exercise underway in Fraser Valley

CHILLIWACK (NEWS1130) – It may look like a military invasion is underway in the Fraser Valley.
Almost 200 reservists with the Canadian Army are taking part in an annual exercise.
Major Ryan Donahue says Exercise Paladin Response is their bridge building camp. “The role of the military engineers is to help friendly forces live, move, and fight in the field. In order to meet that, mobility is a big part of that.”
He says they’re practicing water and gap crossing tasks with assault boats and Bailey-style bridges. “By getting these people together and honing these skills, it helps us assist local authorities when these situations arise.”
Along with helping during the Alberta floods, 2003 BC Forest Fires and Olympics,many of the combat engineers have served overseas as well. “Both Afghanistan or other international operations, be it with the United Nations of the former Yugoslavia.”
