Canadian consumer confidence hits three-year high

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Did you make any big-ticket purchases in 2013?
A measure of consumer confidence has hit a three-year high across the country, but it seems BC is well below the national average. In fact, we trail the pack in an Investors Group – Harris Decima Consumer Confidence Index.
“BC residents are a little bit less inclined to say ‘Now’s the time to make a big purchase’ or less inclined to feel like their future is stable. But it’s a sort of a consistent difference, which suggests that there isn’t any sort of changing movement in opinion there,” says Doug Anderson with Harris Decima.
The national average hasn’t been this high since 2011; Anderson says that may be due to improvements south of the border. “There’s certainly a keen appreciation of the reliance on the health of the American economy for the success of the Canadian economy.”
Alberta tops the consumer confidence index, but Ontario has shown the most consistent improvement over the past few years.
