Canucks fall to Lightning for second straight loss

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Valtteri Filppula and Tyler Johnson scored 20 seconds apart in the second period as the Tampa Bay Lightning handed the Vancouver Canucks a 4-2 loss at Rogers Arena.
The Filppula and Johnson goals came about four minutes after Brad Richardson had opened the scoring for the Canucks.
Just 14 seconds after Johnson put the Lightning up 2-1, Vancouver pulled even. An icing call was waved off and seemed to catch the Lightning by surprise, giving Dale Weise enough time to centre the puck, setting up Zac Dalpe for his first goal with the Canucks.
Tampa Bay took the lead again in the dying seconds of the period. With the Lightning on the powerplay, Nikita Kucherov hammered a slapshot past Eddie Lack with just 2.6 ticks left on the clock, giving Tampa Bay a 3-2 lead heading into the intermission.
The visitors scored the only goal in the third period, as Alex Killorn deflected a puck past Lack with 12:32 remaining.
The loss was the second in a row for the Canucks after they fell 4-3 in a shootout to the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday. It was just the second game in the past 14 that Vancouver didn’t earn at least a point.
The Canucks return to action on Saturday when they visit the Los Angeles Kings.
