Spring session could affect premier’s popularity

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – While Premier Christy Clark’s approval rating is still hovering around the same spot as after the election, one political analyst thinks it’s about to change.
OMNI TV Political Analyst Kim Emerson says the spring session in the Legislature may sway people’s opinions.
“She hasn’t done anything since the election, once people start to see things falling into place this spring such as increased hydro rates, increased ferry rates, surcharges, a whole host of other fees and increases that are going to be put into place…things may start to change,” he says. “All they’ve done since she won the election is they came in and they passed a budget and they’ve talked an awful lot about LNG but there’s nothing substantive on the ground to do with LNG.”
She currently ranks third amongst Canada’s premiers at a 42 per cent rating, which is virtually unchanged since the last two Angus Reid polls.
Saskatchewan’s premier is still at number one and Emerson says it’s because he does what he says and the public really likes that.
Alison Redford is near the bottom, Emerson says it may be because Albertans think they’ll have to give up some of their pipeline royalties to BC.
