VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It turns out many of you, despite having a lunch hour; don’t do a lot of eating in that time. So, we hit the streets of Vancouver to find out how people do spend those 60 minutes.
“I have to stay at work and eat in the office,” said one woman. And she wasn’t alone. Nearly everyone we talked to had the same response.
“I don’t really take a lunch break, I just eat and work [at the same time],” one man told us.
But others were able to get away. “I’ll go to a nearby restaurant,” added another man.
“Sometimes I go for a walk or I’ll go to the grocery store,” said one woman.
Others told us they may not working or eating at their desk, but they don’t leave it either. “I’ll usually surf the Internet, fool around and catch up on some emails.”
A new survey from OfficeTeam found that 43 per cent of Canadians spend time on social media, aside from eating. Others took time to socialize with their colleagues and some leave the office to run errands.
The survey also found that the average break for most people lasted between 31-60 minutes.
