Non-housing construction sector posts double digit gain

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Local construction outside the housing sector posted a double-digit gain last year, according to analysis by an industry group. The value of non-residential construction was just under $3.5 billion, up 11.1 per cent from a year earlier.

Much of the annual gain was packed into the first quarter, which set a record. The fourth quarter was up fractionally from a year earlier, despite a 2.4 per cent drop in government and institutional projects.

Looking ahead, the Vancouver Regional Construction Association says several office projects are proposed or in the early stages of construction, while “a number of large hospital and education building projects” are underway.
