VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s a busy weekend for the local sports teams.
Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks return home to host the Calgary Flames after a disastrous three game road trip where they lost all three games and only scored one goal. The new year has not been kind to the Canucks. They have lost eight of their last nine games. The entire team has struggled, but much of the blame falls on the shoulders of Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin and Ryan Kesler. In the last five games they have combined for just two points.
There is still no word if Roberto Luongo will return to the Canucks crease, or if Eddie Lack will make his sixth straight start. Game time is 7 p.m. at Rogers Arena.
WHL
The Vancouver Giants are in action tonight against the Kamloops Blazers. After a slow start to the season, the Giants have rebounded and have compiled a 22-15-5-3 record. They are in seventh place in the Western Conference.
The Blazers have struggled this season and only have two wins in their last ten games. They are last in the west with a 10-29-2-3 record.
Don Hay is searching for his 600th win as a head coach in the Western Hockey League. He says it would be special to get the win in Kamloops.
“I would love to do it in Kamloops. It is my hometown. It is where I started coaching and where I have had a lot of success. I think the most important thing that I want from our team is to be a competitive team and give a good effort. If we can be competitive we can find a way to have success.”
The Giants have beat the Blazers in all four meetings this season. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
NLL
The Vancouver Stealth host the Colorado Mammoth tonight at the Langley Events Centre. The Stealth lost their season opener to the Mammoth before winning their first ever game at home last weekend against the Minnesota Swarm.
The Stealth will be without captain Kyle Sorensen, who has been placed on the 21 day injured reserve with an undisclosed injury. Sorensen has appeared in both games for the Stealth this season collecting 1 assist, 2 loose balls and 17 minutes in penalties.
