Stiff penalty for blocking a lane during TO rush hour

TORONTO, ON. (NEWS1130) – Stopping in a no-stopping zone during rush hour in Vancouver will set you back about $35 if you pay your fine within a couple of weeks, but in Toronto — they’re getting serious.
Often times you’ll see another driver pull over to run into the store to grab a coffee, to drop off a passenger or a package, but all these curb-hogs caught parking in those zones are now having to pay more than double the fine they used to.
“I have no choice. I have to do my deliveries. Mine are time sensitive and I’m in and out for about a second. I don’t block traffic,” says one delivery driver.
“Two minutes. Just two minutes cost me $150 fine. So expensive in Toronto,” added this man who ran in for a coffee and got busted.
The fine in Toronto is now $150 and with rush hour times being extended from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in that city, it means more time to hand out tickets.
The new rules also allow cars to be towed away if they have three or more unpaid tickets.
