VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Some say chocolates are the way to a woman’s heart, but can the sweets also be used to bribe city hall?
A Vancouver city councillor thinks it’s crazy to ban gifts of cocoa.
The city’s Code of Conduct includes rules around receiving gifts, but councillor Elizabeth Ball says banning chocolate goes too far.
“You know, just a small chocolate token at Christmas can mean a great deal to many people, just as a way of saying thanks.”
She says some confusion over the holidays led to some staff having to return chocolates.
So Ball wants to make it clear chocolate is good.
“We don’t want to be Scrooges or Grinches at Christmas.”
Her motion is on next week’s council agenda. “Just in time for Valentine’s,” she chuckles.
