Burrard Bridge facelift begins this week

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Expect a slow go over the Burrard Bridge tomorrow.

Crews are closing down lanes to fix the 81-year-old crossing.

It will be down to two lanes in each direction until March, meaning drivers heading into the city will notice more changes at the south end near Cornwall Avenue.

But it gets even worse in the spring, when drivers will also go down to a single lane southbound for the summer.

Crews are doing safety and structural repairs on one of the city’s oldest bridges, replacing bearings and joints as well as fixing up and repaving the concrete deck.

You’re being encouraged to take the full eight lanes on the Granville Bridge a little to the east, which already got its facelift in the fall.

Work on the Burrard Bridge is expected to wrap up in July.
