Worker loses cool, causes $5,000 damage

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – Have you ever had a bad day at the office, and just felt like totally losing it?  Police say that’s exactly what a man in Abbotsford did yesterday at his workplace on Peardonville Road.

“Essentially what we had was a person having a really bad day and for whatever reason it got a whole lot worse,” says Constable Ian MacDonald.

He explains that it’s not clear why the man got so upset.  He hadn’t been laid off, fired or disciplined before he lost his temper.  “He was exceedingly agitated — started smashing windows in the business.  He had fashioned a piece of lumber into something that would resemble a baseball bat and then ultimately went outside and damaged a BMW that was parked just outside the business.”

Police and the man’s boss will try to figure out why.  “I want to be fair to this man.  He has worked for this business for a number of years and from a policing standpoint he’s not an individual we had on our radar or would have anticipated having any problems with,” adds MacDonald.

When police arrived the man dropped the lumber but was quickly arrested by officers.

He ended up hurting himself a bit.  Damage was estimated to be well over $5,000.
