Attempted Tinseltown abduction a misunderstanding: police

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It prompted a warning from Vancouver Police yesterday, but turns out to have been nothing more than a misunderstanding.
Officers were looking into a complaint that a woman tried to walk away with a four-year-old girl during the Chinatown parade last weekend.
Police now say the woman thought the girl was lost and was trying to help her.
Vancouver Police spoke with the woman and man believed to have been responsible for the alleged attempted to abduction of the child.
Police watched surveillance video and now believe they were just trying to help the little girl.
They thought she was lost and were taking her to Tinseltown mall security. Unfortunately, when the family went to retrieve the child from the two concerned citizens, a language barrier prevented the group from sharing information.
“These types of situations are tough,” says Sergeant Randy Fincham. “We always try to err on the side of caution and alert the public as soon as possible. Thankfully, in this case, it appears there was no attempted abduction.”
