Cycling group defends Point Grey Road closure

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Its been a few weeks since Point Grey Road in Vancouver was closed off for a bike lane, but it has some people complaining that car traffic has been pushed to other neighbourhoods.
Erin O’Melinn with the cycling advocacy group ‘HUB‘ defends the move, saying it was necessary “[to make] sure that people feel comfortable. It’s very important.”
“There were a lot of close calls and incidents that happened along that road. This is a really important safety improvement,” she adds.
She’s confident everyone will eventually be happy with the change.
“Change is always hard,” she admits. “I think people, once they have a little bit of time to see the impacts of this and understand that it’s a big safety improvement, will see that it benefits all of us.”
The road closure is part of the Seaside Greenway project to link Downtown to Kitsilano and the Point Grey Area.
