KAMLOOPS (NEWS1130) – Avalanche-control work will force a four-hour closure of a major highway linking BC’s south coast and southern Interior on Saturday morning.
The Transportation Ministry says the closure of Coquihalla Highway 5 will begin at 7 a.m.
The closure will allow crews using helicopters to reduce the snowpack in avalanche paths and clean up any deposits that reach the highway.
Detours are available to motorists at Highway 1 at Kamloops and Hope, or via Highway 8 and Highway 1 at Merritt.
The ministry says it may periodically close other highways throughout the weekend because of avalanche control work.
Updates on highway and road conditions will be available on the DriveBC website and stay tuned to News1130 for traffic updates every ten minutes on the ones and you can also get updates by following us on Twitter.
