Picking the perfect Valentine’s Day wine

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Looking for that perfect wine on this Valentines Day?

David Stansfield at the Vancouver Urban Winery says there’s a way to fit a good vino into your budget without looking like a cheapskate.

“We often make fun of what we call ‘the second cheapest’ wine. It is a well-known fact in the industry that your best-selling wine on your wine list is your second-cheapest wine. Maybe avoid that and go to the third
cheapest.”

As for the best bang for your buck, Stansfield loves pink wines from Provence in the South of France.

“Otherwise, something a little more refined,” he says. “I love the wines of Beaujolais, the Gamay based wines of Burgundy, but not even remotely the same price tag as you’re going to get with the Pinot noirs of Burgundy.”

As far as bubbly goes, he suggests going local with sparkling wine — something like Summerhill Cipes Rosee.

Stansfield notes that just like speaking with a sommelier in a restaurant, your best bet when buying wine is going to a store that specializes in wine.
