VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A little progress has been made but there are still few details on the upcoming referendum on how to fund transit.
BC’s Transportation Minister Todd Stone and the Metro Vancouver Mayors Council met today for the first time in months to discuss how to move forward.
“We do not agree on everything, I think that’s a fair statement. There’s a lot of heavy lifting to do moving forward and there are a lot of details to continue to sort out,” explains Stone.
The two groups have gone back and forth for some time now but he says they have developed a strong foundation of trust and respect to move forward as partners.
“We’re not going to agree on everything right away but there’s an awful lot of folks who are standing in transit lines tonight who really don’t care about what level of government is arguing with what level of government. They want us to find solutions to the problems,” says Board Chair Richard Walton.
Stone made it clear the transit referendum will still go forward and no options for funding have been taken off the table.
