TransLink wins CTF wasteful spending award

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – TransLink has been given top prize in an annual award that nobody wants.
It’s the annual wasteful spending awards, given by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.
TransLink has come out on top in the municipal category for its $4.5 million South Surrey lot, which was built by the province, and at $2 a day, commuters have largely avoided.
Jordan Bateman says reputation helped earn TransLink its dubious distinction.
“Not to mention the funny story of a lone car in the parking lot being interviewed by a media outlet, and the driver saying ‘Well, I park here because I know there’s no chance my car will ever be scratched.'”
“I have to give a little tip of the hat to TransLink’s long legacy of waste. I think there was a certain reputation that comes into it, just like when you pick an MVP in the NHL, reputation does come into that,” added Bateman.
Whistler’s trouble with hydrogen buses was nominated, as well as Vancouver and other cities for their involvement with Bixi bikes.
