BC Hydro moving ahead with John Hart dam renovation

By

VANCOUVER ISLAND (NEWS1130) – The billion-dollar renovation of a hydroelectric plant on Vancouver Island is going ahead.

BC Hydro has signed a contract with SNC-Lavalin for work on the John Hart dam and generating station at Campbell River.

Hydro says the facility has been operating since 1947, is in poor condition, and might not withstand even a moderate earthquake.

The four-year project includes a new generating station, water intake, several kilometres of huge pipes and a tunnel. It’s projected to provide as many as 340 jobs.
