Pilot blamed for bulk carrier crash in Delta

By

DELTA (NEWS1130) – The Transportation Safety Board blames pilot miscalculation and ineffective communication after a bulk carrier slammed into the causeway at the Roberts Bank terminal in 2012.

Manager of Regional Marine Operations Raymond Mathew says the impact caused significant damage and caused the conveyor to collapse into the water. “Didn’t allow himself enough room and time to make that turn. The tugs weren’t out there in time because of some communication issues.”

There were no injures but 30 tonnes of coal did seep into the water.
