Local bishop notices a difference upon his return to Kiev

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) – The bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of BC has returned from Ukraine.
The Most Reverend Ken Nowakowski says he was struck by what he saw this time around especially in the capital city.
“I could not believe the changes in that city and in the people,” he says.
The Eparch had been in Kiev in December, and had spent time in the square where protests had erupted.
“A city that goes through this type of horrific violence committed on them by their own government changes you. I think there is a sense of shock and horror that this could have happened. You see this in people’s eyes,” he explains.
But he says a sense of determination has set in.
People are still gathering in the infamous square where protests were staged just weeks ago, but he says they’re now maintaining a constant vigil.
“One of the things that is most moving and startling are the thousands and thousands of bouquets of flowers that have been placed on the street where the people were killed.”
He points out hourly prayer services are still conducted round the clock at the square and a sense of calm has fallen on the people who still occupy the spot.
