PORT MOODY (NEWS1130) – It’s another milestone for the Evergreen Line being built to link Port Moody and Coquitlam with Burnaby: tunnel boring will soon begin.
It’s the kind of milestone politicians love, and this one drew local mayors, the transportation minister, the premier and federal cabinet minister James Moore.
It was left to Christy Clark to announce that, following tradition, the tunnel-boring machine will be named ‘Alice.’
“Why ‘Alice,’ you say — because it’s named after Alice Wilson who was a trailblazer in the geological survey of Canada,” says Clark.
Alice Wilson was the first female geologist in Canada.
A two-kilometre tunnel will run east of the Barnett Highway in Port Moody to south of Kemsley Avenue in Coquitlam. The line is scheduled to open by summer, 2016.
