Avalanche victim in critical condition

VERNON (NEWS1130) – A search and rescue unit from Vernon has headed out to the site of an avalanche, after getting reports someone was buried.

The team’s Leigh Pearson says they got the call at around 3 this afternoon.

“We got called by a witness. I don’t know whether he was with the subject or just happened to witness it. All he said was that one person was completely burried and they were unable to find him.”

Pearson has since received information that people with a heli-skiing company were able to find the person.

But, he doesn’t know what exactly had the person out on the mountain.

“We dont know whether they were were skiing, snowmobiling, snow shoeing, we have no idea.”

It happened on the Monashee Mountains just east of Vernon.

BC Ambulance was able to airlift the person to the hospital in Kelowna.

The person is in critical condition.
