OTTAWA (NEWS1130) – A mother with two kids in line at an Ikea store in Ottawa was dubbed ‘disgusting’ by a manager; she now wants an apology.
Brea Rehder, 24, posted to Ikea’s Facebook page early Tuesday about the incident, saying she was waiting to speak to a manager about a price issue.
After waiting a significant amount of time, her infant got fussy so she began nursing her while she waited.
The manager reportedly glared at her and said “When you’re done being disgusting, we can resume our discussion. In the meantime, take it to the bathroom because you’re holding up the line.”
The mother got upset with the manager, paid for her items, and left the store.
In her Facebook posting, she said it was highly unlikely she’ll return to the store and she was considering a harassment lawsuit.
Meanwhile, Ikea says they have contacted Rehder, who goes by “Jynx Marie” on Facebook, to apologize.
“This is not consistent with our culture and values,” they explained in a post. “IKEA supports mothers’ rights to breastfeed openly.”
