Frustration grows over false leads in airline disappearance

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There have been several false leads when it comes to figuring out what has happened to the Malaysia Airlines flight that disappeared one week ago.
Retired pilot and aviation analyst Jim Tilmon says he’s frustrated at the communication process in the investigation. He says those behind all the information shouldn’t be releasing things that aren’t concrete.
“There are times that you’re best just shutting up and saying I don’t know and we’ll get back to you as soon as we have better information. You’re better off doing that than coming up with the scenario de jour,” he says. “If they don’t have the answer, if they don’t know… that’s perfectly a good answer to say ‘I don’t know’.”
Tilmon says the media is at the mercy of an information feed that has proven to be unreliable so far.
“This is one of the times that I defend the media and I don’t do that a lot. I think the media is doing the best job they can to try and honestly give tough answers to some of these tough questions.”
He adds the people who are suffering most are those with loved ones on the plane.
“They keep getting a roller coast thing for their emotions which has to be horrendous.”
