Non-partisan group hopes your concerns become election issues

PORT COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) – What issues do you think should be the focus in the next Federal election? That was the question posed at meetings held in Metro Vancouver during the end of February and beginning of March by non-partisan group Lead Now. Hundreds in the Lower Mainland showed up to voice their political worries.
Concerns included the Fair Elections Act, a bill proposed by the Conservative Government that would remove voters’ right to have someone vouch for their identity if they don’t have government issued identification. In addition to this, Amy Lubik who helped organize the Port Coquitlam meeting says Canada’s Climate record and rising poverty were also brought up.
“Right now it seems like the rich are getting richer, and the poor are getting poorer. We would like to see the Canadian Government take better leadership in making sure there’s a more equitable economy, more fair paying jobs,” says Lubik, adding particpants were concerned their voices aren’t being heard by the Federal Government.
Lubik says that’s something the group hopes to change with the meetings, part of the Connect campaign.
“The next steps are to compile information we got, and then we want to bring it to our elected officials and tell them what the people are wanting, hoping that they will want to run on some of those platforms,” says Lubik.
More than 80 meetings were held by Lead Now across the country.
