TED Talks begin in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you’ve been downtown, you’ve probably noticed the buzz around TED Talks–not to mention that giant high-tech, color changing net above the Vancouver Convention Centre. The conference tackling a number of topics got underway Monday.
The TED Talks slogan: Ideas worth spreading, something that fits well with Vancouver according to Chilliwack Biologist Dr. Carin Bondar.
She has spoken at previous TED events, and says for those in the community, our beautiful beach-side city made sense to host the conference.
“It’s a big deal. It’s a very elite event so I mean it certainly isn’t something that most of us are going to be able to attend. But it’s going to bring a lot of rich people to our city,” says Bondar.
If you want to attend, admission starts at 7500 dollars–but the talks will also be streamed online, for free, at TED.com. “Ted does an amazing job of putting all of its contents online for free. For the elite to be funding these things from paying this massive amount of money, I think it’s a bit of give and take,” Bondar adds.
Speakers at the event in Vancouver and Whistler range from Sting to Bill Gates.
