VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Canucks are 10th in the Western Conference standings and trail Dallas by three points for the final playoff spot.
Things are looking grim for Vancouver when it comes to the playoff race. Tonight, it can begin the march toward the improbable by beating the Nashville Predators.
Head Coach John Tortorella isn’t giving up hope. He thinks the Canucks can sneak in to the final playoff spot.
“It changes so quickly if you get a couple of points. We certainly need to get a streak going, but let’s worry about starting one tonight. We can’t look at getting a streak going if we don’t win the first one.”
Captain Henrik Sedin is confident the team can make a comeback.
“We are still in the race. That is the only way we can look at it. We know we have to win a lot of games, but two years ago I think we went 10-1 down the stretch as well, so it is possible.”
Sedin enters the game on a bit of a hot streak. During the Canucks recent four game road trip the newly formed first line of Sedin, Alex Burrows and Nicklas Jensen combined for seven goals and 14 points.
The Predators’ playoff fate may have been sealed this week. They enter tonight’s game having dropped two games in a row. They are 12th in the West.
This is the final meeting of the season between Vancouver and Nashville. The team’s have split the season series with a win a piece.
The Canucks will be playing this game without Chris Tanev. The defenseman suffered a broken finger on Monday against Tampa Bay and is out three to four weeks. When Tanev is not in the lineup this season, Vancouver has only one win in eight games.
Puck drop is at 7 p.m. and you can watch the game on Sportsnet Pacific.
