Spring has officially arrived!

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS1130) – We have officially said goodbye to winter!
Spring arrived at 9:57 a.m. today.
We turned to Meteorologist Russ Lacate to find out what we can expect, weather-wise, in the coming months.
“Isn’t it funny: We waited all this time for spring, and it’s cold — it’s colder than it’s been in weeks!” says Russ.
“But it’s kind of a temporary phenomenon; it’ll be with us, probably, for the next few weeks because the long-range charts are indicating that the start of the spring season will be unusually chilly and also unseasonably wet,” he explains.
Russ says that wet and cold weather is expected to continue through the first half of April.
“After that, the very long-range charts are all sweeping in the exact opposite direction. It should be drier than average and quite a bit warmer than normal. That’s for late April, into May, and into June, as well!”
“So, it should be a spectacular spring, but a bit of a slow start — maybe a few weeks before it really gets going,” he adds.
As for today, Russ says things don’t look too bad.
“We’ll get a lot of sun today, and yet it’s a single-digit high with only nine degrees. There’s possibly showers and hail in the Fraser Valley again this afternoon. Those showers are not bubbling up in Metro Vancouver, though.”
“Tonight, it clears and goes down to plus-1 degree. We’ll have a cloudy morning tomorrow and a sunnier Friday afternoon,” he adds.
