VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Out of the fine print and right onto the packaging. Should your cell phone come with a big, bold health warning?
The Conservative Member of Parliament for Oakville, Ontario says he has multi-party support from MP’s across the country after tabling a private members bill back in December.
Terence Young wants to see easily readable warning labels on cell phones, Wi-Fi routers, baby monitors and any other wireless devices that emit microwave radiation.
Young points out that manufacturers including Blackberry, Motorola and Apple already publish safety warnings about their devices, but they aren’t exactly easy to find..
“Their warnings are in fine print, in paper booklets that few people read,” he says. “This new Bill ensures those same warnings will be readable and easy to find, right on the packaging or the device.”
Young says the World Health Organization places wireless radiation on the same cancer warning-list as DDT, lead and car exhaust. “Canadians have a right to know this.”
If the private members bill passes, the fine for manufacturers failing to put warning labels on wireless devices would be up to $100,000 a day.
