Part of Stanley Park seawall closed due to storm damage

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The seawall in Vancouver between Third Beach and Lions Gate Bridge is closed indefinitely after a large portion of it collapsed.

The Vancouver Park Board says a 10-12 metre section of the outer wall and cap fell into the ocean after wind and waves picked up over the weekend.

Park Board General Manager Malcolm Bromley says this section is more fragile the most.

“The logs, in combination with the high tides, put quite a beating on the wall. The edge has crumbled off. We’ve closed it. We want to make sure we’re safe. We’re getting a consultant in who’s an expert on that.”

He says the city is saving up to eventually replace some of these older sections.
