Whitecaps rally to beat the Timbers

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Masato Kudo and Christian Bolaños scored six minutes apart in the second half to lead the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 2-1 victory over the Portland Timbers at BC Place. Kudo added an assist on the Bolaños goal.

Nat Borchers opened the scoring for the visitors as he beat David Ousted in the 34th minute, and it remained 1-0 for Portland at halftime.

The Whitecaps pulled level on Kudo’s first career MLS goal in the 60th minute. The Japanese striker hit a left-footer from the left side of the box that got past Jake Gleeson to make it 1-1.

Vancouver took its first lead of the game in the 66th minute. Bolaños put a ball into the box and Blas Perez just missed getting a head on it, but his attempt was enough to distract Gleeson as the ball landed and went through his legs to put the ‘Caps ahead 2-1. That gave Bolaños goals in three straight games.

The result gave the Whitecaps just their second win in seven matches. Their overall record is now 4W-2D-5L.

Vancouver will host the Chicago Fire on Wednesday evening.
