Register your bike: North Van RCMP

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Police have noticed an increase in the number of bikes stolen over the last two years. So, North Vancouver RCMP are warning people to register their bikes.

Corporal Richard De Jong says there have been 349 bikes taken since January of last year and there is a reason for this.

“There’s a lot more valuable bikes out there. People are putting a lot of money into their own bikes, sometimes more than their own vehicles. The North Shore is known for its great mountain biking. There’s a lot of demand for high-end parts as well.”

The RCMP encourages people to send in the registration for their bike because once the bike is registered, there’s a better chance that it can be returned if stolen.

You can send an email to nvgetyourbikeback@rcmp-grc.gc.ca to register.

According to De Jong other preventive measures people can take besides registration are:

Every year hundreds of recovered stolen bikes are sold at public auction because they cannot be tracked back to the rightful owner.
