Annual Ride to Conquer Cancer raises millions for local research

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – More than 1,500 cyclists crossed the border this morning for the annual Ride to Conquer Cancer, the largest charity ride in the province.
Since 2009, this ride has raised over $77-million or the BC Cancer Agency, with that money going into developing local treatment options.
President of the BC Cancer Foundation Sara Roth says many of this weekend’s riders have done the 200 km ride before. “Many cyclists ride in honor or in memory of a loved one or for a friend who is dealing with cancer and essentially everyone is riding to give patients hope for tomorrow so this is a really fun way to do that.”
“They put it on their calendars and they look forward to it. It is an epic experience riding from Vancouver to Seattle. I also think donors in British Columbia very much want to see their philanthropic support stay locally in their communities.”
The riders will reach just past La Connor tonight before getting back in the saddle to reach Seattle tomorrow. And if you have a friend or family member you want to track on the road – there’s an app to monitor their progress.
Today’s event attracted 1,687 riders and raised $7.1 million.
