SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Surrey RCMP have arrested one of their own following allegations of child luring made in a vigilante video posted online.
The unnamed officer was arrested last night and is still in custody according to assistant commissioner Brenda Butterworth-Carr.
She says the man’s name won’t be released until charges are approved, but she says he is not the officer identified as ‘Officer Dan Johnson’ in the online video.
“The member in question has been removed from duty status, and is suspended,” says Butterworth-Carr.
“If these allegations are substantiated, we will be taking immediate steps to separate ourselves from this individual. There is no room in the RCMP for this kind of behaviour or individual.”
While the RCMP acknowledge the officer may not have been caught without the video, they still don’t approve of the group’s actions.
