West Coast Express running on time after operational changes at CP Rail: TransLink

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS 1130) – West Coast Express trains have been running mostly on time this month after a fall season of delays for riders.

Canadian Pacific has made some adjustments to make more room for the commuter service.

Freight trains blocking tracks used by the West Coast Express caused hours worth of delays in November and December, prompting mayors and TransLink to pressure CP to find a fix.

And in January it’s been so far, so good.

“It’s been really minimal delays. Just the basic five, ten minutes here and there that you’d expect to see from time to time when you’ve got a rail operation,” says Chris Bryan with TransLink.

Byran says they’ve since had some fruitful discussions with CP and things have improved, adding CP has made operational changes.

“It’s my understanding that they’ve moved some of their freight works outside of the Lower Mainland. I think there was just too much congestion going on down in the Vancouver area.”

It remains to be seen if the fix will be permanent, but Bryan says they’re pleased.
