Lots of fines handed out after commercial truck blitz in Vancouver
VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – This week, Vancouver Police along with some other agencies initiated a three-day commercial truck safety blitz and the final statistics are pretty alarming.
The force says 94 per cent of the vehicles that were inspected had some sort of issue or violation and at the end of it all more than $25,000 worth of fines were handed out.
“The vast majority of commercial vehicles were operated safely and are well maintained. Inspectors focused on trucks in an obvious state of disrepair, and pulled them over for further inspection. Mechanical deficiencies, load security, bald tires, brakes, windshields, suspension, and steering components, are a few of the areas targeted,” the force says in a statement.

THREE-DAY TOTAL NUMBERS
(unit means anything with a license plate)
- total number of units checked: 273
- units without violations present: 16 (six per cent)
- units with violations present: 123 (45 per cent of all units had violations present)
- units that met out of service criteria: 134 (49 per cent of all units checked that were out of service)
This week’s campaign was carried out at five random locations across the city.
The Ministry of Transportation says more than 30,000 commercial trucks are inspected every year province-wide.
