Should local bus drivers be subject to random testing, once pot becomes legal?

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Local bus drivers still don’t know how the legalization of recreational pot will affect them.

BC Transit and TransLink are working on possible policy changes.

Drivers for both companies are expected to come to work sober — meaning no alcohol or drugs. While neither currently does random drug testing, you don’t have to look far to see transit companies that do.

Bus drivers in Toronto have been subject to random testing since last year. A program randomly selects employees to be tested for drugs and alcohol every week.

On the very first day the program was rolled in, two workers failed the test.

In Seattle, where pot is already legal, bus drivers also have to take random tests.
