Support still strong for Horgan’s NDP, but there’s room for growth, poll finds

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Nearly two years in, support is still strong for Premier John Horgan’s NDP government.

A poll out on Thursday finds the New Democrats score particularly well on healthcare, education, the economy, and jobs.

“If you look at the overall ratings, we have about 15 or 18 different measures. On the core, the big ones: healthcare, education, economy, they’re doing well. There’s more people who are saying they’re doing a good job than doing a bad job,” says Steve Mossop with Insights West.

But this latest BC Government Report Card shows there is still some room for improvement.

“They do, however, score poorly on taxes, on energy pipelines, on poverty and homelessness, and also on the implementation of the legal sale of marijuana. So in those situations we have about 55 per cent of the population giving them poor marks versus only about 27 or 30 per cent giving them good marks.”

Overall, Mossop says, if an election were to be held tomorrow, the BC NDP would likely win a majority government.

“Fourty-eight per cent of the population in BC say that he’s doing a good job and we look at the Greens, Andrew Weaver, comes in at 40 per cent and unfortunately for the Liberals, Andrew Wilkinson scores abysmally lower at 27 per cent so he’s really holding up strongly on those numbers.”
