VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A shift to online shopping is part of the reason last year was record-breaking one for Canada Post, with a million parcels delivered a day since mid-April.
Canada Post says with people ramping up their online buying habits in 2020, retailers have to keep up with demand, leading to one million packages a day going out for 181 days straight.
In 2017, one million parcels were delivered in just 67 days.
THREAD: @canadapostcorp says it had a record-setting end to an "unprecedented year." For 181 consecutive days starting around mid-April 2020, it delivered a million or more parcels a day. For comparison's sake, it says in 2017 in delivered 1M parcels on 67 days. 1/x

Canada Post points to small businesses and start-ups accounting for the high demand as many shifted to online sales. Compared to the year before, the number of parcels jumped by 50 per cent. Most of the growth happened in the last quarter of the year, reaching 85 per cent in December.
More people were also heading out to the post office to have their packages delivered. Canada Post records a 45 per cent increase for drop-offs, mostly from small businesses and start-ups.
MORE: “during the 2 weeks leading up to and including Xmas Eve, our employees delivered just under 20M parcels to Canadians, w/a record 2.4M of those delivered in 1 day – Monday, Dec. 21st.” Despite this, the company says it still couldn’t keep up w/demand. 2/2
