B.C. records seven COVID-related deaths, 661 new cases

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Seven lives have been lost in B.C. due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the past day, bringing the province’s overall total to 1,873.
Three of those deaths were within the Interior Health Authority, while two were in Vancouver Coastal Health, and another two were in Island Health.
B.C. recorded 661 new infections Wednesday, including 237 in the Fraser Health Authority. Meanwhile, Interior Health saw 196 and Vancouver Coastal Health recorded 99. There were 66 more confirmed cases in Island Health and 62 in Northern Health. One additional case is a person who lives outside of Canada.
The number of people hospitalized with the virus remained unchanged at 288. That includes 137 patients in the ICU, down from 140 the day before.

On Monday, B.C.’s so-called “vaccine passport” came into effect. Proof of vaccination is now required at restaurants, pubs, bars, nightclubs, movie theatres, gyms, weddings with 50 people or more, as well as at university dorms, among other locations.
That same day, the province announced it will require all health-care workers who work in acute and community care will need to be vaccinated as of Oct. 26. The order will also apply to people who work in-home care but not those who are not employed by the province.

On Wednesday, the province said 86.1 per cent of eligible British Columbians aged 12 and up have received a first COVID-19 vaccine dose, while 78.6 per cent have received their second.
It says 76.5 per cent of cases between Sept. 7 and Sept. 13 were people who were not fully vaccinated. A closer look at the figures indicate 68.4 per cent were not vaccinated at all, while 8.1 per cent had only received one dose.
When it comes to those who were hospitalized in the two-week period between Aug. 31 and Sept 13, the province says 81.7 per cent of patients were not vaccinated at all and another 5.7 per cent had only received one dose.

Acute Care: Chilliwack General Hospital (Fraser Health), Fort St. John Hospital (Northern Health) and Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (Interior Health)
Assisted or Independent Living: Nicola Meadows, David Lloyd Jones, Sun Pointe Village, Hardy View Lodge and Rose Woods Village (Interior Health)
The B.C. Vaccine Card can be downloaded now, but until Sept. 26 any proof of one dose of a vaccine will be accepted. Along with showing you had at least one dose, adults will also need to show valid government-issued photo ID.
