BC Culture Days highlight resilience of art communities in the face of COVID-19

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s a month-long celebration of arts, culture, and heritage, as BC Culture Days return Friday.

Much like last year, the month-long showcase will be a mix of digital and smaller in-person events, due to COVID-19.

“A large number of our events are things like workshops and tours, so those numbers are really limited. For indoor events, people will be asked to wear their masks and there will be sanitation stations in place,” explains Nazanin Shoja, Program Director of BC Culture Days.

“That’s what we did last year and we didn’t have any complaints. It went pretty smoothly.”

It all kicks off with “Re: Generate,” a series of videos highlighting the arts scene in five communities.

“It starts off in Prince Rupert, goes to Bella Coola, Sooke, Salmon Arm, and Kimberley and showcases the resilience of the arts community throughout the pandemic and adapting to all the changes that they’ve had to make in order to survive,” she explains.

“We knew that in some of these smaller communities resources were limited and so, to be able to help them videotape the projects that they’re working on and present them professionally on our website, was something that we really thought was needed.”

BC Culture Days is on from September 24th to October 24th. Find out more here.
