Three missing men found dead after Duffey Lake landslide

The number of people killed in the landslide on Highway 99 has now risen to four.

RCMP in Lillooet say the bodies of three men were recovered this week during a search in the Duffey Lake area after a landslide this week.

Lillooet RCMP say all three were confirmed to be missing earlier this week.

Their families have been notified.

The BC Coroners Service confirms one person’s remains were found on Wednesday and two were recorded Thursday.

Search and rescue had been searching for one more missing man, but efforts have ceased today due to poor weather and site conditions.

“Search efforts, which included a police service dog continued throughout the remainder of Friday morning but have now since concluded. All current search efforts have been exhausted and discussions are underway as to how and when, best to proceed,” a statement reads.

This search follows a five-day search where a number of people were reported missing after an extreme rainstorm and subsequent mudslide.

The area remains closed to motorists and there is no timeline with respect to when the roadway may be open.

At 11:30 a.m. Saturday the province is expecting to provide an update on the flooding conditions in southern B.C.

Anyone who believes their loved one is missing and has not yet contacted police is asked to contact the Pemberton or Lillooet RCMP detachments.
