42 cases of COVID-19 confirmed at Windsor-area restaurant

Public health officials are investigating a COVID-19 outbreak at a Windsor-area restaurant that is responsible for at least 42 positive cases to date.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has issued a “high risk” exposure alert for anyone who attended a birthday party at the Elite Restaurant in Kingsville on Nov. 18.

Health officials say anyone who was at the restaurant between Nov. 18 and Dec. 2, including close contacts of those who were there, should get tested immediately and self-isolate should they development of symptoms, even mild ones.
The health unit says a variant of concern has not been identified in this outbreak.

Manager Bimi Rexhepi tells CityNews they complied with all the rules and protocols that are currently in place including checking for proof of vaccination and making sure that people were not symptomatic.
“We’re doing what we’re supposed to do and … it’s unfortunate that sometimes people are just not as transparent,” he said. “Out of all this, it probably affected over 300 people – they can’t go to work, they can’t go to school. For us, we cannot open because of what’s happened.”
In Ontario, 23,913,372 vaccine doses have been administered. 90.0% of Ontarians 12+ have one dose and 87.3% have two doses.
284 people are hospitalized with #COVID19. 220 are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status and 64 are fully vaccinated.

Rexhepi adds they’ve been given no timeline for how long the public health investigation will keep them from reopening.
