B.C. Premier John Horgan says he has tested positive for COVID-19. The premier wrote on Twitter Monday that his symptoms are mild, and he is thankful he is fully vaccinated. Horgan says he is isolating and recovering at home until his symptoms resolve.
Horgan, 62, recently underwent 35 rounds of radiation for treatment of throat cancer. He returned to his office in January.
This morning I tested positive for COVID-19.
Fortunately, my symptoms are mild and that is thanks to being fully vaccinated.
I’m following public health guidance, isolating and working from home until my symptoms resolve.

COVID-19 testing has been restricted in B.C. since late December, and it’s unclear whether the premier’s diagnosis was done via a PCR test or a rapid test.

Last Tuesday, the premier sat down with the prime minister during Justin Trudeau’s B.C. visit. Both leaders wore masks as they spoke about climate initiatives.
B.C. no longer mandates masks in public indoor settings, and is moving to lift the vaccination passport program on Friday as the province says it is moving along its path to recovery.
On Thursday, Horgan spoke about the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions and said he was confident in how things will go once remaining protections are eased.
“But I do know that people are feeling more comfortable — they were feeling exhausted, quite frankly, as you know, from the restrictions,” he said Thursday.
He also said he understood why some people may be feeling vulnerable or left behind, noting he just finished cancer treatment himself.

“For those who are still concerned, I get that. And I appeal to those who are not to have respect for those who are still taking the steps to be comfortable in our civil society and getting back out into public again,” Horgan explained.

Perhaps will go some way to easing concerns for those fretting about the extremely rare cases of blood clotting associated with this particular vaccine. #COVID19 https://t.co/UzG4BqhJKx

Horgan publicly received his first vaccine, AstraZeneca in April, and took to social media to share when he had received his second dose in June.
